About The Event

Since 1985, the No-Nonsense seminar has provided a world-class program with scientific presentations and workshops presented by leading clinicians and experts in podiatric medicine and related disciplines.This event will discuss different surgical techniques of the foot and ankle, explain the biomechanics of the lower extremity, delve into limb salvage and endocrinology care as well as identify would care options of the lower extremity.

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards and requirements for approval of providers of continuing education in podiatric medicine through a joint provider agreement between Cine-Med and lerEXPO. Cine-Med is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a provider of continuing education in podiatric medicine. Cine-Med has approved this activity for a maximum of 25 continuing education contact hours.

Overview of cytology, anatomical vs clinical pathology, histopathology vs cytology, indications for cytology specimens, instrumentation, common soft tissue masses, ganglion vs sarcoma, joint aspiration, gout vs pseudogout, stepwise procedural technique for obtaining a proper sample via needle biopsy, alcohol vs formalin fixative, ESwab, cytology fluid analysis, joint fluid analysis, review of cytospin centrifuge, synovial joint fluid analysis

  • Enhance physician diagnostic skills utilizing cytology to sample mass and fluid.
  • Improving patient outcomes with early diagnosis of ganglion vs sarcoma.
  • Attaining competence with needle aspirational biopsy and fixative selection.
  • Understanding differences between gout and pseudogout.

11:15 - 11:45 - When a Fungal Nail is not a Fungal Nail

Review and case presentations of fungal toenails that appear to be onychomycosis on visual examination yet are actually a variety of different conditions with laboratory testing and confirmation. Review of dermatology and podiatry literature on dystrophic nails and presentation of new data on onychomycosis positivity rates. Presentation on onychodystrophy vs onychomycosis, infections vs non-infectious causes, causes of nail dystrophy, attention on biomechanical and microtrauma in nail pathology. Review of pincer nails, nail bacterial infections, nail psoriasis, nail lichen planus, Beau’s lines, and nail unit melanoma. Proper nail unit specimen collection technique and choosing appropriate laboratory testing.

  • Understand how and why onychomycosis treatments may fail.
  • Identify onychodystrophy vs onychomycosis.
  • Clarify infectious vs non-infectious causes of nail pathology.
  • Analyze laboratory testing for onychomycosis, PCR clinical utility, and predicting antifungal resistance .
